I’ve had an accident! … What do I do?

Can I choose any auto body shop?
Yes. By law, you have the right to have your vehicle repaired at any licensed auto body repair centre. The choice is yours; it is not the insurance company's choice. The insurance company however, may recommend a body shop to you but, the final choice is always yours.

 

Must I have my vehicle repaired at a repair centre chosen by my insurance company?
No. Your auto insurance policy allows you to go to the collision repair centre of your choice and at no extra cost to you. Insurance companies offer "Direct Repair Programs" or have preferred shops as an option for you. Only you, the vehicle's owner, is authorized to have collision repair work done on your vehicle.

 

What is a “Direct Repair” centre?
A direct repair facility is a body shop that works directly with your insurance company as a preferred location. A body shop earns the right to be in preferred shop programs by meeting certain requirements. These include having certified technicians, using the proper equipment, and most importantly, having a record of satisfied customers. When you use a preferred shop, the repair process is streamlined. A preferred shop actually writes the estimate and then after the insurance company approves this estimate, they will order the parts and repair your vehicle. Insurance companies constantly monitor their preferred shops to ensure quality repairs.

 

What information do I need to bring?
The only information you need to bring with you when you visit J & A is your insurance company policy number and the name of the insurance company representative handling your claim. We will take care of the rest.

Estimate Preparation

Do I need an appointment for an auto body repair estimate? Is there a cost?
We recommend that you make an appointment with us for an estimate; however you can come in at any time during the hours of operation. We provide free auto body repair estimates and the process of getting an estimate can take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Most estimates depend on the extent of the damage.

 

Do I need to contact more than one shop for an auto body repair estimate?
No, only one estimate from the auto body repair shop of your choice is required unless your insurance policy states otherwise.

When will my car be ready?

How long will it take to repair my car?
Every vehicle is different and there isn’t a standard amount of time for repairs. The nature of the damage, the timeliness of your insurance company, and the availability of parts will determine how long repairs take. Here at J & A Collision Centre, we work very hard to complete quality repairs as fast as possible. We have a reputation of providing on-time delivery thanks to our well equipped facility, our team of certified technicians and our dedication to getting the job done right… the first time.

Insurance Approval

Do you work with my particular insurance company?
Yes. We work with all insurance companies. We know their adjusters and their processes. You can take advantage of our existing relationships within the insurance industry; we will be your best advocate in the repair process.

 

Do I have to pay for any extra damage you find after the first inspection?
No, you do not have to pay for extra damage related to your accident. The insurance company may re-inspect and approve the extra auto body repairs; this is called a "supplemental."

 

Do I have to pay anything when I leave my car with you?
No, all payments are processed after the job is complete.

Car Rentals

How can I get a rental car?
If you need a rental car, we can help you make the necessary arrangements. Insurance companies will only pay for a rental car if you have that option on your policy. Check your policy and/or call your insurance company to find out if you have rental coverage and what your specific limitations are.

 

Who pays for my rental car?
Insurance policies often pay for your rental car; it depends on what policy options you selected when you purchased your policy. We can arrange a rental car to pick you up in most cases. We have relationships with several Cornwall area rental car companies, including Enterprise and National. There is usually a daily cap on rental car expenses paid by your insurance policy, thus we recommend that you read your policy closely

Structural Repair

What if my vehicle has frame damage?
Most cars today are built using unibody construction, meaning that the frame and body of the car are welded together. That means that usually, when your car is involved in a collision, it will have some type of movement to the unibody. With our specialized equipment, we are able to straighten or replace the damaged part to within factory approved specs.

 

If my vehicle's frame is damaged is it a total loss?
No. A car is a total loss only when the price of repairs exceeds the insurance companies determined value of your vehicle. Nowadays, most cars are built using unibody (frame and body as one) construction. Our highly skilled technicians, with the aid of our state-of the-art laser measuring system, can return your vehicle to its original factory specifications. If it is determined that the frame section is bent beyond repair that section can be replaced.

Colour Matching

Can you match the paint color?
Today's modern factory finishes incorporate multiple layers of highly specialized paints. We have made a major investment in the finest paint system available and constantly upgrade our technology and equipment to ensure that each vehicle's paint matches. We take special pride in our ability to match factory finishes as the final step in the restoration process.

Delivery

How long do I have to wait to wash my car?
You may wash your vehicle immediately after repairs. We recommend that you wait at least 30 days before you wax your car to ensure that the finish is not damaged.

Guarantees

Do you guarantee your work?
Yes, all work comes with a written lifetime guarantee. We guarantee every single repair we make, regardless of the technicalities of your insurance policy. If you find something wrong with your repair after you leave our body shop, simply return and we will fix the problem. This is good for as long as you own your car.
